Peng Chau, directly translated as the Flat Island, is less than 1 sq km and is one of the least commercialized places in Hong Kong, with few tourists visiting even on the weekends. Yet Peng Chau has a lot to offer and discover if your children are interested in doing some kids’ outdoor activities - a short hike or bike ride, visit historical sites or explore its vibrant art scene. Here are some of our most loved places in Peng Chau you and your children can visit as part of their extracurricular activities:

• The Leather Factory (also known as The Secret Garden)
The Leather Factory is accorded with a Grade 3 historic building status. It has been transformed into a colorful space with graffiti and beautiful outdoor installations made from phones, tires and various household items. One of the best kids’ activities to do here is to simply enjoy and explore this beautiful space and find a picture-perfect spot for your kids there.

• Art Scene in Peng Chau
Right next to the Leather Factory and on the main streets of Peng Chau, you'll find a few small shops with handmade products and seasonal workshops, which makes this a great stop as part of your children’s after school activities

• Peng Yu Path
Located at the north of Peng Chau, Peng Yu Path is a hiking trail that is suitable for all ages, not just for children’s activities in Hong Kong. Most parts of the path are well paved and it only takes around 2-3 hours to complete the trail. You will pass by beautiful local villages and coastal rocks while overseeing the breathtaking scenery of Discovery Bay, Disneyland and more, making it one of the more exciting extracurricular activities in Hong Kong for children.

Getting to Peng Chau:
Take a ferry from Central Pier No. 6 (30–40 minutes)

One of the very popular kids’ activities in Kam Tin is farm visit. There are a few farms that are just a 5-minute walk away from Kam Sheung Road MTR station. Once you get out of Exit A, you'll immediately see signs guiding you to the farms nearby. You should swing by to feed some llamas, goats and rabbits and get in touch with nature before exploring other parts of Kam Tin as part of your after school activities in Hong Kong.

After your farm visit, head back to Exit B and you'll see Kam Sheung Road Flea Market right in front of you. Bear in mind it is best to visit Kam Tin on the weekends for kids' activities as this is the only time the markets and some of the attractions are open.

• Red Brick House Market
The Red Brick House was formerly a candle factory and has now been revitalized into a local market. You'll surprise yourself and your children with a great variety of handicrafts, collectibles and local snacks.

• Kam Tin Mural Village
Just a few steps away from the Red Brick House Market, you'll see a series of painted walls in Kam Tin Mural Village. From happy dogs and cats to iconic places and Hong Kong Olympian gold medalists, there are over 30 murals in the village, making it great for children activities in Hong Kong.

• Indigenous Clan Histories
3 minutes away from the mural village, you'll find unique structures from centuries-old walled villages (Kat Hing Wai Village, Tai Hong Wai Village, Wing Lung Wai Village). Kam Tin is one of the last remaining places in Hong Kong where you'll find remnants of the original structure. For example, the village still contains old high brick walls and defense towers previously used to protect villagers from bandits or wild animals.
Apart from walled villages, there are also temples and old facilities still in use all over Kam Tin. The image above shows Tang Kwong U Ancestral Hall, which is a 15-minute walk from the mural village, If you are interested in visiting this place as part of your kid’s activities in Hong Kong.

• Kam Tin Tree House
At Shui Mei Village Playground, which is merely 5 minutes from Tang Kwong U Ancestral Hall, there is an interesting natural phenomenon to see - an ancient Banyan tree completely engulfed an abandoned brick house. You can still see the remaining bricks from afar.

If you're looking for a little luck in the coming year, and one of the better after school activities, visit the Hong Kong Well-Wishing Festival at Lam Tsuen, Taipo, where Hongkongers wish for their good fortune! This is one of the best kids’ activities in Hong Kong to learn about traditional customs during Chinese New Year.

Write your wishes on a red card tied to a mandarin, and throw it to the long-standing Lam Tsuen Wishing Tree. It is believed that your hopes will come true if you successfully toss it on the tree. There are also food vendors and a mini fair selling local snacks and traditional new year products, making this place a great choice for extracurricular activities.
